DevilDriver was Dez Fafara's second life after Coal Chamber's nu-metal theater: less gothic carnival, more engine, road, and blade. Since 2002, the band has turned groove metal into attack machinery, pushing riffs into a zone between melodic death metal, hardcore, and American brutality. Its importance lies less in subtlety than in consistency: a clenched-jaw sound built to withstand wear and tear.
DevilDriver is metal as a truck barreling downhill, without brakes, without tenderness, with purpose.
