Born in Basingstoke, Carl Barât formed The Libertines with Peter Doherty in the late 1990s. The group rose to prominence with Up the Bracket, from 2002, before splitting up for the first time in 2004.
Barât created Dirty Pretty Things, which released Waterloo to Anywhere in 2006, and later revived the Libertines for reunions and new recordings. He also released a self-titled solo album in 2010 and was part of the Jackals.
