Asleep at the Wheel

Asleep at the Wheel formed in 1970 in the town of Paw Paw, West Virginia, led by Ray Benson. The band brought western swing to country audiences with records such as Comin’ Right at Ya, from 1973, and placed “Choo Choo Ch’Boogie” on the country charts with the album Asleep at the Wheel.

In 1974, it moved to Austin, where it became part of the local scene. It stayed active and recorded tributes to Bob Wills, among them Still the King, from 2015.
