Almir Sater was born in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul, and traded his law studies for the viola caipira. He released his first album in 1981 and drew attention with a sound that brought together regional rhythms, música caipira, and folk influences.
With Renato Teixeira, he wrote songs such as Peão and Tocando em Frente. He also acted in Pantanal and O Rei do Gado, where he played the viola player Pirilampo.
