Born in Rio de Janeiro, Alaíde Costa began singing on radio programs as a child and turned professional as a crooner at Dancing Avenida in 1955. She moved toward bossa nova in the late 1950s and released Alaíde canta suavemente, featuring songs by composers from the movement.
In 1972, she sang Me deixa em paz with Milton Nascimento on the album Clube da Esquina. After a period away from the stage, she returned to recording and continued releasing albums, including Afinal in 2015.
