Born in São Paulo, Wanda Sá moved to Rio de Janeiro as a baby, later studying acoustic guitar with Roberto Menescal and teaching at the school he ran with Carlos Lyra. She began her professional career in 1962.
Her first album, Wanda vagamente, came out in 1964, produced by Menescal. At the end of that year, she moved to the United States to join Sérgio Mendes's Brasil 65, with whom she recorded two albums. She later resumed her career in Brazil and returned to recording and performing with Menescal.
