Vanessa da Mata left Alto Garças, in Mato Grosso, to become one of the most popular MPB singer-songwriters of the 2000s. Before her recording debut in 2002, she already had “A Força Que Nunca Seca”, co-written with Chico César, recorded by Maria Bethânia.
With a sweet, sensual voice, she mixed reggae, samba, pop and ballads in “Ai, Ai, Ai” and “Boa Sorte/Good Luck”, with Ben Harper, and later devoted an entire record to Tom Jobim.
