Formed in Belo Horizonte in 1978, Uakti built its own instruments to invent a music that did not yet exist. Led by Marco Antônio Guimarães, the group turned PVC pipes, wood, glass and water into marimbas, flutes and percussion with a unique timbre, bringing together minimalism, concert music and Brazilian popular tradition.
It recorded with Milton Nascimento, Philip Glass and Paul Simon and ended its activities in 2015, leaving a body of work without parallel.
