Sílvio Caldas was born in São Cristóvão, in Rio de Janeiro, and began singing professionally on the radio in 1927. In the 1930s, he established a partnership with Orestes Barbosa and recorded songs such as Chão de Estrelas, which became a milestone in his career as a serenade singer.
He also recorded songs by Ary Barroso. After announcing his retirement several times, he returned to recording in 1995 for a duet with Aurora Miranda.
