Satyricon formed in Oslo in 1991 and released Dark Medieval Times in 1993, followed by The Shadowthrone. With 1996's Nemesis Divina, the band cemented its place in the Norwegian black metal scene; on 1999's Rebel Extravaganza, it incorporated industrial elements.
The duo of Satyr and Frost continued exploring other directions on albums such as 2013's Satyricon, and released Satyricon & Munch in 2022, a work created for an exhibition about Edvard Munch.
