Salt-N-Pepa

Formed in Queens, New York, in 1985, Salt-N-Pepa was one of the first female hip-hop groups to dominate the charts. Cheryl James and Sandra Denton, with DJ Spinderella, talked about sex, autonomy and pleasure with humor and candor in “Push It”, “Let's Talk About Sex”, “Shoop” and “Whatta Man”.

Very Necessary became a multiplatinum phenomenon, and the group's induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2025 confirmed its pioneering role.
