Formed in London in 1970, Roxy Music put art school, glamour and the avant-garde into the same tuxedo. Bryan Ferry sang like a crooner from another century, Brian Eno handled synthesizers like collage, and Phil Manzanera and Andy Mackay gave rock textures never heard before.
After Eno left, the band refined itself into the elegant pop of Avalon, from 1982, influencing everything from new wave to synthpop. It returned for sporadic tours, the last in 2022, for the group’s fiftieth anniversary.
