The group formed in 1972 as a flute quartet with Mauro Senise, Kim Ribeiro, Raul Mascarenhas and Ronaldo Albernas. With Pixinguinha's blessing, it performed with the composer on Fantástico and in a Rádio JB special. After a hiatus, it returned in 1997 as a quintet, with a new lineup and a repertoire of choro and bossa nova. It released the CD Quinteto Pixinguinha in 2000.
