Paulinho da Viola

Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1942, Paulinho da Viola grew up close to choro and samba in a family connected to music. He joined Portela in 1963 and spent time at Zicartola before releasing his first solo album, Paulinho da Viola, in 1968.

Sinal Fechado won the TV Record festival in 1969, and albums such as Nervos de Aço and A Dança da Solidão established his career. After a gap of nearly a decade without a studio album, he returned with Bebadosamba in 1996.
