Os Cariocas

Founded by Ismael Netto in Rio de Janeiro in 1942, Os Cariocas began as a vocal ensemble with Severino Filho, Ari Mesquita, Salvador and Tarquínio. Over the course of their career, the lineup changed and the group moved toward bossa nova, releasing a series of albums on Philips that includes A bossa dos cariocas and Mais bossa com Os Cariocas.

The group also worked in television and toured. Their history spanned several decades, with new lineups keeping the name and repertoire alive.
