Born and raised on the Itapagipe Peninsula in Salvador, Margareth Menezes began her music career in the 1980s, balancing music and theater. Her debut album came out in 1988, and Ellegibô expanded her international reach. In 2001, Afropopbrasileiro, produced by Carlinhos Brown, featured Dandalunda and cemented a phase connected to samba-reggae and Afro-Brazilian rhythms. In the following years, she released albums including Naturalmente and Autêntica.
