Born in Rio de Janeiro, Marcos Valle began his career in 1961 in a trio with Edu Lobo and Dori Caymmi. With his brother Paulo Sérgio Valle, he wrote songs such as Samba de verão and Preciso aprender a ser só, featured on O compositor e o cantor Marcos Valle, from 1965.
In the 1970s, he incorporated soul, funk and electric instruments into records such as Garra and Previsão do tempo. Estrelar marked his pop period in the 1980s; later, his work gained renewed circulation abroad and he resumed releasing his own material.
