Born in Rio de Janeiro, Maíra Freitas studied classical piano and graduated from the Escola de Música da UFRJ before making her debut as a singer on Martinho da Vila's album Poetas da Cidade in 2010.
In 2011, she released her first solo album, Maíra Freitas, produced by Mart’nália. Piano e Batucada, released in 2015, brought piano and samba even closer together through her own compositions and collaborations. Alongside her solo career, she was a member of PianOrquestra.
