Cristovão Bastos

Cristovão Bastos was born in the Marechal Hermes neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro and began studying accordion as a child. In the 1970s, he was part of Banda Black Rio's original lineup and played with Paulinho da Viola.

As a composer, he collaborated with Chico Buarque and Aldir Blanc on songs including Todo o Sentimento and Resposta ao Tempo. After decades as a pianist, arranger, and instrumentalist on records and at concerts, he released Avenida Brasil, his first solo album, in 1996.
