Born in Rio de Janeiro, Claudette Soares began singing on radio programs as a child and received the nickname Princesinha do Baião from Luiz Gonzaga. In the late 1950s, she began performing at Plaza alongside musicians such as João Donato and Baden Powell.
In 1960, she moved toward bossa nova and brought her repertoire to São Paulo nightclubs. She recorded her first solo LP, Claudette é dona da bossa, in 1964 and maintained a recording and performing career in the decades that followed.
