Born in São Paulo, Célia first gained recognition on Flávio Cavalcanti's program Um Instante, Maestro!. She released her first LP in 1971, featuring songs by Joyce, Ivan Lins, Nelson Ângelo and other composers from the new generation of MPB. On her next album, released in 1972, she recorded Detalhes by Roberto Carlos and Erasmo Carlos.
She took part in festivals in Brazil and abroad and continued releasing records, with gaps between them. In 2010, she revisited part of her career on the album Célia 40 Anos – O lado oculto das canções.
