Carlos Lyra was one of the architects of bossa nova, the writer of melodies of rare elegance such as “Minha Namorada”, “Você e Eu” and “Coisa Mais Linda”. A Rio native and a partner of Vinicius de Moraes and Ronaldo Bôscoli, he brought political awareness to the song in the 1960s, through his ties to the CPC da UNE and “Canção do Subdesenvolvido”.
He spent stretches living in Mexico and the United States and died in 2023, leaving a body of work that joins lyricism and engagement without losing its lightness.
