Bateria da Mangueira

The percussion ensemble of Estação Primeira de Mangueira, in Rio de Janeiro, is known as Tem Que Respeitar Meu Tamborim. Its pulse is distinguished by the absence of the answering surdo, a feature that sets its playing apart from the standard approach of other Rio Carnival percussion ensembles.

The tamborim also holds a central place in its identity. Over the decades, different percussion directors have led the ensemble, which maintains the school's rhythmic tradition in parades and rehearsals.
